As both a pediatrician and IBCLC — with years of lactation consultations woven into her clinical practice — she can evaluate feeding challenges in the context of your baby's overall health and development, allowing for a more comprehensive and integrated approach to care.

Each consultation is in-office at our Cascade Township location. Appointments are 1-2 hours — enough time to understand what's happening and leave with a clear path forward.
History & intake
Dr. Sebastian reviews your feeding history, birth story, medical background, and any concerns you've tried to address. Nothing is rushed — context matters.
Clinical assessment
A full evaluation — latch observation, oral anatomy assessment, weight check, and relevant physical exam findings. For concerns like tongue-tie or mastitis, Dr. Sebastian can assess and diagnose directly.
Your care plan
You leave with a clear, written plan — a prioritized set of next steps based on what Dr. Sebastian actually found. Follow-up visits track progress and adjust as needed.

Initial consultations work best when baby is present and hungry enough to feed during the visit — this lets Dr. Sebastian observe the feeding directly.

You can book directly — no referral from your pediatrician required. All families in the Grand Rapids area are welcome, regardless of where your child receives primary care.

HSA eligible: All lactation consultations qualify as HSA-eligible medical expenses under IRS Publication 502 — regardless of membership status or insurance plan. Pay with your HSA card at the time of service.

No, you don't need to be a member to schedule a lactation consultation. However, lactation services can be added onto any membership.

We don't bill insurance directly. However, all lactation consultations are HSA-eligible under IRS Publication 502. Some PPO plans may reimburse out-of-network lactation visits — we're happy to provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer.

As soon as you need support — there's no minimum age. Many families book within the first week or two after birth. If you're expecting and would like in-home support from the very beginning, our lactation bundle includes three in-home visits starting in those early postpartum days.
