CARE THAT BEGINS BEFORE YOUR BABY ARRIVES
Newborn & Prenatal Care
A pediatrician you've already met, a relationship already underway, and support that starts the moment you need it. Mitten Pediatrics is designed to be there for both the weeks before birth and the weeks immediately after.
Newborn spots are limited. Prenatal enrollment is the best way to secure care before your baby arrives — once the panel is full, we maintain a waitlist.
Start the relationship before birth
Walk into the newborn period with a pediatrician who already knows your family, your questions, and your hopes for your child's care. No scrambling to find a doctor when the baby arrives.
Care that meets you where you are
Dr. Sebastian provides dedicated newborn care with time to answer your questions, offer reassurance, and help your family settle into this new season with confidence.
Warm Mitten Package — a fully supported 4th trimester

The weeks after birth aren't the time to figure things out alone.
WARM MITTEN PACKAGE
The 4th trimester, held with both hands.
Those first days at home are a time for healing, bonding, and adjusting. In-home pediatric care helps you focus on your family instead of packing up for an appointment.
The Warm Mitten Package means Dr. Sebastian is already part of your team — coming to you, in your home, during the weeks when leaving the house with a newborn feels like an expedition.
Families who start with Warm Mitten get a pediatrician who already knows their baby, their home, and their parenting style before the first office visit ever happens.

STANDARD MEMBERSHIP
Standard Membership
60 Minutes of real attention
Every question you've been saving up gets answered. No clock on the wall, no stack of charts waiting outside the door
0-2 Months — the hardest ones
The first eight weeks are when parents need support the most and are least equipped to chase it down.
This isn't how most pediatric care begins. That's the point.
You leave knowing your baby is okay.
A newborn visit should feel like a conversation, not a checklist. Dr. Sebastian creates space to answer your questions, understand how your family is adjusting, and provide the guidance you need to move forward with confidence. Here's what each visit includes:
WHAT TO EXPECT
-
Peace of mind that your baby is gaining well and feeding is working. One of the most anxiety-producing questions in the early weeks, answered in your living room.
-
Skin, tone, reflexes, fontanelle, hips, heart and lung sounds. The reassurance of knowing someone who knows what they're looking at has looked at everything.
-
Milestones, feeding cues, sleep patterns. Not just a checklist — a conversation about what you're actually observing and what it means.
-
For Warm Mitten families, feeding support is woven into every visit. For standard members, feeding questions are addressed fully as part of the exam.
-
The list you've been building in your phone at 7pm. Bring it. Dr. Sebastian has time for every single one.
WHEN TO REACH OUT
One of the most exhausting parts of early parenthood is the mental calculation: is this worth calling about? Is it serious enough? Will they think I'm overreacting? With Dr. Sebastian's direct number, that calculation goes away. You just text. She responds. That's it.
Some things that always warrant reaching out in the newborn period:
→Fever of 100.4°F or higher in a baby under 2 months
→Difficulty feeding, latching problems, or concerns about weight gain
→Jaundice — yellowing of the skin or eyes
→Unusual crying, inconsolability, or changes in behavior
→Umbilical cord concerns — redness, discharge, or odor
→Any gut feeling that something isn't right
That last one is not a throwaway. Parents know their babies. If something feels off, Dr. Sebastian wants to hear about it — not reassure you unseen, but actually evaluate it.
You don't have to earn the right to call.
PRENATAL ENROLLMENT
Know your pediatrician before your baby does.
One of the quieter anxieties of pregnancy is not knowing who will care for your child. Enrolling prenatally means that question is settled. You've met Dr. Sebastian. She knows your family. When your baby arrives, you don't have to find a doctor — you just call the one you already trust.
Meet Dr. Sebastian — no commitment
A free 20-minute conversation. Come with your questions, your concerns, your birth plan. Leave knowing whether this feels like the right fit. Most families know by the end of the visit.
3RD TRIMESTER
Secure your spot — and your peace of mind
Enrolling reserves your place and starts the relationship. Monthly fees don't begin until birth. If the Warm Mitten Package is right for you, book it now — you'll be glad you did before the chaos starts.
BEFORE BIRTH
Your doctor is already there — just text her
Membership begins at birth. Dr. Sebastian is reachable by phone or text from day one. Your first visit is scheduled in the first week. You don't navigate this alone.
AT BIRTH
The relationship continues — just without the home visits
Warm Mitten families transition to standard membership. The enrollment fee is waived. Same doctor. Same access. The package is how it begins — the relationship is what lasts.
MONTH 5+
THE PRENATAL MEET & GREET
What to bring, what to ask
The prenatal visit is your time to interview Dr. Sebastian — and for her to learn about your family. Some things worth covering:
✓ Your birth plan and any known complications
✓ Your intentions around breastfeeding
✓ Questions about newborn care, vaccines, and well visits
✓ Whether the Warm Mitten Package is the right fit for your family
✓ How DPC membership works and what's included
Common questions from expecting families.
-
Most families schedule a prenatal visit in the third trimester — typically between 28 and 36 weeks. This gives you enough time to meet Dr. Sebastian, ask questions, enroll before your due date, and book the Warm Mitten Package if you're interested. Earlier is always welcome.
-
The Warm Mitten Package replaces the standard membership during months 1–4 — it's not in addition to it. From month 5, families transition to standard membership seamlessly.
-
Please reach out directly — every situation is a little different and we want to make sure the transition from NICU to home is as supported as possible. Dr. Sebastian will work with your family individually to coordinate care appropriately.
-
No — hospital newborn care is handled by the hospital's own pediatric team.
-
Yes. Dr. Sebastian provides newborn rounds after delivery at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. After you're discharged, care continues with your first newborn visit, ensuring a seamless transition from the hospital to ongoing pediatric care.
If you have concerns during your hospital stay, the hospital team is there to help — and Dr. Sebastian is reachable by text for questions.
-
Vaccines are approached through open, respectful conversations with each family. Dr. Sebastian takes the time to listen to your questions and concerns, provide evidence-based guidance, and arrive at a mutually agreeable path forward that is in the best interest of your child.
A free 20-minute prenatal meet & greet. Come with your questions. Leave with a pediatrician you already trust — and one less thing to worry about before your due date.
